What counts as school hours here

We list a job only when the advert itself states hours that start at 9:15am or later and finish by 3pm. That leaves time to drop children at school and collect them at the end of the day. Our check is automatic and reads the employer's own words, so always read the full advert before you apply.

  • “Term time only” is not enough on its own. It tells you which weeks you work, not which hours. Many term-time school jobs cover the whole school day.
  • “School hours” with no times is not enough either. We need the start and finish times.
  • After-school shifts, such as 3:15pm to 6pm, are left out.

How to find school-hours work in Birmingham

  1. Search with the times, not just “term time”. On any job site, read the hours line before anything else. Use our search for Birmingham, where every job has already passed the hours check.
  2. Look at roles that are often part of the day. Lunchtime supervisor, part-time admin and morning or afternoon support roles fit most often. See the list below.
  3. Check the local boards too. Councils and public bodies post some jobs only on their own sites:
  4. Ask about the hours. If a job is close, for example 8:45am to 3:15pm, it is fair to ask the employer whether they would consider a later start or earlier finish. Every employee has the right to request flexible working from day one, though the employer can say no for a business reason.
  5. Get the weekly email so you see new West Midlands jobs without checking every day.
