Teaching assistant and learning support jobs whose adverts state hours between 9:15am and 3pm. Updated 27 October 2026.
Today's numbers: we checked 1,367 live teaching assistant adverts (including learning support assistants and HLTAs) from Teaching Vacancies. 3 state hours that fit the rule.
That is a small share. 496 of the 1,367 adverts mention term time, but almost none state hours that leave time for your own school run: a term-time post often covers the whole school day. The ones that fit today are part-time: a morning, an afternoon or a short day.

Getting a teaching assistant job that fits
Read about the role, pay, hours and qualifications on the National Careers Service teaching assistant profile. It lists several ways in, including college courses, apprenticeships and volunteering.
Look for adverts that say “part-time”, “mornings” or “afternoons”, then check the times. A full-day term-time post will not fit.
Schools need an enhanced DBS check for this work, and the school normally arranges it when it offers you the job.
If a post is close to the hours you need, ask the school whether the start or finish could change. You have the right to request flexible working.
What counts as school hours here
We list a job only when the advert itself states hours that start at 9:15am or later and finish by 3pm. That leaves time to drop children at school and collect them at the end of the day. Our check is automatic and reads the employer's own words, so always read the full advert before you apply.
“Term time only” is not enough on its own. It tells you which weeks you work, not which hours. Many term-time school jobs cover the whole school day.
“School hours” with no times is not enough either. We need the start and finish times.
After-school shifts, such as 3:15pm to 6pm, are left out.
