How to find paid work that starts after the school drop-off and ends before pick-up, with real numbers from today's adverts. Updated 27 October 2026.
Today's numbers
We checked 5,978 live school adverts from Teaching Vacancies (Department for Education).
125 state hours between 9:15am and 3pm. That is about 2.1%, or roughly 1 in 48.
1,475 adverts mention term time. Only 91 of those also state hours that fit.
So jobs that truly fit the school run are rare, and “term time” on its own does not mean they fit. That is why we check the hours in every advert.
What counts as school hours here
We list a job only when the advert itself states hours that start at 9:15am or later and finish by 3pm. That leaves time to drop children at school and collect them at the end of the day. Our check is automatic and reads the employer's own words, so always read the full advert before you apply.
“Term time only” is not enough on its own. It tells you which weeks you work, not which hours. Many term-time school jobs cover the whole school day.
“School hours” with no times is not enough either. We need the start and finish times.
After-school shifts, such as 3:15pm to 6pm, are left out.

How to search
Read the hours line first. Look for a start time of 9:15am or later and a finish of 3pm or earlier. If there are no times, ask before you apply.
Think about part of the school day. Lunchtime supervisor jobs and morning-only or afternoon-only support roles are the most common fits.
Ask about flexible working. Every employee can ask for flexible working from their first day. The employer must consider it but can refuse for a business reason.
Check what help with childcare you can get.Tax-Free Childcare can help pay for breakfast and after-school clubs, and working parents in England may get free childcare hours for younger children.
Get a weekly email of new jobs, so you don't have to check every day.
